Integrated Pest Management

(509) 944-0505

Integrated Pest Management is a term that seems to have gained popularity in the last 5 years. In theory, integrated pest management is:
  • The trimming, pruning, corrective trimming, and thinning of trees and shrubs.
  • Having the correct cultural and environmental situation for each specific species.
  • The use of chemicals to prevent tree insect and disease infestation.
caterpillar web Integrated pest management is best practiced when first planting species on a property. If you like river birches and cottonwoods, you would want to plant them in an area that maintains its moisture. Maybe a low spot on the property, or a drainage area. They like moist areas and grow well along river beds and creeks. If you planted a cottonwood or birch on a high point that was airy, you would be watering all the time, and more than likely struggle to keep the insects and disease from taking over the tree.

Can Tree Doctor Offer integrated pest management?

In its true form.... NO......you would need to hire a local tree trimming company to keep up on your trimming needs. Tree trimmers refer us all the time, and Tree Doctor would be happy to refer one of many excellent tree trimming companies from the Spokane or Coeur d'Alene area.

Our part of integrated pest management is to develop a plan for your entire situation. Tree Doctor does not just come out and spray insecticides and fungicides in a blanket application and hope to get something accomplished. We only spray what needs to be sprayed. We can provide a 100% organic tree care solution for you, a "soft program", which is a combination of organic and traditional applications, or a traditional program. We can even release naturally grown bugs that are beneficial to your landscape by eating other bugs that destroy your horticulture. This is our part of an environmentally sound practice.
